Items and stock

Set up what you buy, with its unit, its cost and its minimum.

Needs Stock

An item is each thing you buy: tomatoes, tortillas, beer, napkins. Stock is the list of all of them, with how much you have of each.

Stock is not edited by hand. It moves through entries, exits and adjustments, and every movement lands in that item's ledger. That's on purpose: a number you can overwrite explains nothing when the inventory doesn't add up.

Adding an item

  1. Select New item.

  2. Name it and pick its Unit — the unit you count it in, not the one you buy it in. If you buy cases of 24 beers but count beers, the unit is the bottle.

  3. Enter the Cost/unit. This is where your recipe and dish costs come from.

  4. Set the Minimum — the point at which you want to be warned. And the Maximum, if it helps as a purchasing ceiling.

  5. Assign a supplier if you already have one set up.

Reading the list

ColumnWhat it tells you
StockHow much you have right now.
Cost/uWhat each unit costs you.
StatusOK if you're above the minimum, Low if you've fallen below.

Low is the signal to buy. It's also the column you want to sort by before building a purchase order.

An item's page

Opening an item shows its current stock, cost, minimum and supplier, and below that the Ledger: the last 50 movements. That's where you record entries, exits, adjustments and waste.
