Waste
Record what spoiled so stock and cost tell the truth.
Waste is product you bought and didn't sell: it expired, it dropped, too much was prepped. Recording it makes stock fall for real, and puts the cost somewhere you can see it.
Several at once
Inventory → Waste is the global screen: one line per item — quantity, reason and note — and they all record together. Everything lands or nothing does: one bad line and no other line touches stock. If you keep storage areas, pick which one they leave from. The latest recorded waste sits below.
Recording waste
Open the item and select Waste.
Enter the quantity.
Pick the reason: Expired, Damaged, Overproduction, Spill or Other.
Add a note if there's something to explain, and select Record waste.
Waste comes off stock and stays in the item's ledger with its reason.
Why the reason matters
The five reasons aren't paperwork — each points at a different fix:
- Expired — you're over-buying, or rotating badly.
- Overproduction — prep isn't calibrated to real demand.
- Spill and Damaged — handling, storage, or a process worth reviewing.
In Analytics → Waste you see them grouped. A month of expiry waste on the same item is a conversation with your supplier; a month of spills is a conversation with your team.
